Major Battles
During the Korean War, there were many battles that took place. There was approximately 73 battles/operations that were conducted between North Korea and South Korea. Some major battles that took place was the Battle of Pusan Perimeter, Battle of Inchon, and Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
Battle of Pusan Perimeter
The Battle of Pusan took place on August 6th - September 12, 1950. The battle was between the United Nations and the North Koreans at Pusan Perimeter which was a rectangular area that was located southeast of Korea. The U.S. forces put a defense against the North Koreans from taking the entire peninsula. In the end, the U.S. forces declared triumph for successfully put a defense against the North Koreans.
Battle of Inchon
The Battle of Inchon took place from September 15-29, 1950. MacArthur wanted to invade Inchon which was the port city of Seoul. On September 10, MacArthur and his fleets set off to head for Inchon. On September 15, they reached Inchon and they began their invasion of the island. Within an hour, they have taken the island. The Marines had 17 wounded. The North Koreans had 108 dead and 136 captured. As Inchon was being invaded, the Marines was also heading toward Seoul to recapture it. At the end of September 29, Seoul was once again under South Korean government.
Battle of Chosin Reservoir
The Battle of Chosin Reservoir took place on November 27 - December 6, 1950. On November 27, Chinese attacked at Chosin Reservoir. The American troops faced 120,000 Chinese troops, the American troops were surrounded and outnumbered. However, the Chinese failed their attack leaving the United States Marines in victory. Today, the Battle of Chosin Reservoir was one of the proudest moments of the Marines.
Effects of the Major Battles
The effects of the major battles are that after battles there are casualties form both sides. There is always someone who get wounded or in some cases gets killed. The major battles eventually leads up to a resolution because the battles causes casualties and both sides eventually gets tired of fighting. The North and South Korea signed an armistice to stop the fighting. Although the armistice (resolution), did not really solve anything, it stopped the shooting.
Implications
The implications that I can draw about the roles of the battles are that I think that the battles made tension between both sides because in each battle the opposing side wants to win. When one side loses, it makes them want revenge on the opposing side to show them that they can win. I think that the battles causes the aggression from both sides of the war, they go into war mode and they would do anything they can to win. Which means they would sacrificed themselves in order to win the battle. The role of battles leads to a resolution to the conflict because they cant have a continuing war forever.
