United Nations Security Council
The United Nations Security Council have the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security. Each representative has to present at all times at the United Nations Headquarters. The council consists of 15 members. There are 5 members that have permanent seats in the council with veto power and ten temporary members that are elected by the General Assembly for a 2-year term. When there is a complaint that concerns a threat for peace is brought to the council, their first action, is trying to have both parties reach an agreement by peaceful means. However, in some cases, the Security Council has to authorize force to restore or maintain peace and security or they resort to impose a sanction.
The United Nations and the Korean War
At the end of World War II, Korea was split into two. The South was in control by the United States and Russian took over North Korea. The U.S. and the Soviet Union thought that separation was temporary and that the two would reunite later on. However, there was no agreement on how to reunite. On June 25th, 1950 , North Korea invaded the South. On the same day, the Security Council met, however, Russia was absent at the meeting because they were boycotting the United Nations. America claimed that North Korea had broken world peace by attacking South Korea so America called that the 38th parallel, or the division line between North and South Korea, should be withdrawn. 9 countries supported this view out of 11 countries in the Security Council. Since Russia was absent, the Council restrained from doing it.
On June 27th, 1950, the U.S. did not approve the council's decision so they asked the council to force the North Koreans out, this was voted it. Russia still continue the the United Nations so again they were and absent and could not use their veto; the United Nations sent troops to the help fight on the South Korean side. The United Nations got support from other countries for taking action to fight against an aggression nation. Russia stopped boycotting the United Nations and rejoined the meetings; they vetoed all of the council's initiative.
Later, America put forward a solution called 'Uniting for Peace.' This solution stated that if the United Nations of Security vetoed any initiative that was important to maintaining peace, General Assembly would take over to create peace. Russia did not agree with this and argued against it. The Korean War gave an indication that the United Nation was dominated by America. This meant that the United Nations could not avoid the Cold War issue.

Implications
The implications I can draw about the role of the United Nations Security Council was that they made a big impact on how to settle the Korean conflict. The United Nations Security Council played a major role on whether or not to have the war. I felt the United Nations were playing favoritism because in the war they sent troops to help fight the South Korean side. Their role in participating in the war against North Korea, I think it gave an idea for the North Koreans of how the outcome would turn out.
