Role of Soviet Union
At the end of World War II, the Soviet Union set war with Japan who was currently occupying Korea. Japan surrendered and the Soviet Union won Korea. The United States were afraid of that the Soviet Union would take all of the Korean peninsula so they immediately went to occupy the southern part of Korea. The Soviet Union and the United States agreed to temporarily split Korea, while the Soviet Union occupies North Korea and the United States took South Korea. During the time while North Korea and South Korea was split, North Korea developed Soviet Union's practices of communism. The tension between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. led to North Korea's invasion in South Korea. Although, the Soviet Union did not directly fight in the Korean War, they just equipped China and South Korea with weapons that was left over from World War II.
The effect of Soviet Union's Invovlement
The effects of the Soviet Union's involvement was that they supplied the North Koreans weapons that were left over from World War II. These weapons benefited the North Koreans when they were to invade South Korea because they had modern Soviet Union weapons and it made quick work of the South who oppose them. The Soviet Union did not directly fight in the war. However, while the 2 nations were split they influenced North Korea to also practice communism. This probably led to the invasion of South Korea and the representation of North Korea being aggressive. The North Koreans felt protection from the United States by the Soviet Union when they signed a mutual defense with U.S.S.R.
Implications
The implications I can draw about the involvement of the Soviet Union is that I think they started it all because they had to invade Korea and challenge Japan and the Soviet Union was the one who spread communism to North Korea. I feel that if the Soviet Union did not spread communism, it would have not made North Korea invade South Korea. I think the Soviet Union caused the North Koreans to be aggressive and try to spread communism to South Korea. Even if they barely fought directly in the Korean War they still made a big impact in the war. They spread communism and I think made the North Koreans be on the verge to try to also have South Korea be in ruled under a communist government. I think if the Soviet Union did not invade Korea, the U.S. probably would not have gotten involved and the division of Korea would have not happened and not have both sides still have tension between each other.
